As the colder months approach, many households across Scotland face rising energy costs. The Warm Home Discount is a government scheme designed to help people most in need keep their homes warm.
We don’t have anything to do with the Warm Home Discount itself – but we want to make sure people know about it and don’t miss out.
What is the Warm Home Discount?
The Warm Home Discount takes £150 off your electricity bill (or sometimes gas if you’re with the same supplier). It’s not a cash payment – it’s applied directly by your energy supplier to reduce what you owe.
There are two main groups who can get it:
Core Group – If you receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, you should qualify automatically, as long as your name is on the bill and your supplier is part of the scheme.
Broader Group – If you’re on certain means-tested benefits (like Universal Credit or Income Support), you might still qualify, but you need to apply directly with your supplier. Applications usually open in autumn and are first-come, first-served.
If you use a prepayment meter, you might get the discount as a voucher instead.
